Help for hurricane
victims
When Hurricane Katrina raged at the Gulf
Coast on August 29, she left many insurance agents unable to tend to
customers or conduct business normally, if at all. Applied Systems
followed the lead of The Zutz Group of Wilmington, Delaware, to
offer assistance to fellow agents in need. The Zutz Group asked
Applied Systems to use our Web site to communicate that the agency
was ready to assist any agents affected by the hurricane.
Immediately, other Applied Systems customers joined the relief effort
and, to date, more than 50 agencies have offered office space,
equipment, phone lines, trailers, and even their homes. One agent who is
a licensed pilot offered to helicopter into the devastated area to
transport people and supplies. When Hurricane Rita hit, the agencies
reaffirmed their willingness to help.
In addition, Applied Systems has assisted several hurricane-affected
agencies in going live on AppliedOnline, our Internet-based agency
management systems. If Katrina or Rita interrupted your business, and
you need to resume operating quickly and efficiently using TAMOnline or
VisionOnline, please contact Client Solutions at 800-999-5368 or email
[email protected].
Applied Systems would like to thank all the agencies that have offered
time and resources to those in need. We will continually update our
Agents Helping Agents list with those who want to help. The list is
available at

Mississippi
agency live on TAM within a week after Katrina
On September 7, 2005, Pam Wellington of
Wellington Associates, Inc., reported to Client Solutions Senior Sales
Representative Sue Veen: After Katrina, all we needed was power and our
T1, and we were back in business. We had TAM before we had phones! Talk
about disaster planning!
Wellington Associates--an Applied Systems
customer since 1991 and a TAMOnline user since April 2003--was one of
many agencies unable to open for business the day after Hurricane
Katrina. Once Pam Wellington was able to reopen, she knew that
migrating to TAMOnline had been the right business decision.
Pam said: I think everyone from California
to Maine has been, or will be, affected by Hurricane Katrina. Although
our office in Jackson, Mississippi, did not receive near the devastation
that southern Mississippi and New Orleans did, we were without power,
phones, and gasoline for a week following the storm. How comforting to
know that our data and system were still accessible. Since Wellington
Associates has TAMOnline, we were able to send several employees to
another location north of Jackson, forward our phones, and begin
processing claims for our insureds. It was as easy as finding a place
with electricity and internet service. Thank you, Applied Systems, for
designing TAMOnline. We all sleep better at night.
If you are considering migrating to
AppliedOnline, now is the time to investigate. Applied Systems is
offering FREE migration from your LAN system to TAMOnline or
VisionOnline, saving you at least $1,000. For more information, contact
Client Solutions at 800-999-5368 or
[email protected].

New TS technology
TAM 7.2 introduces IVANS Transformation
Station's newest technology, WebDNA, which allows agency and user
configurations to be stored on the TS servers. This technology
provides tighter security for Transformation Station transactions
and allows user credentials to be administered and maintained
automatically by carriers if chosen.

Reminder: Notice
for Novell NetWare 3.x and 4.x users
With the
upcoming release of TAM 7.3, Applied Systems will require
long filename support for all NetWare volumes that hold TAM
executables and/or data. Special considerations: Performance may be
slightly affected; and additional RAM may be required, as name
spaces require additional memory for directory cache and
management. For information, contact Client Solutions at
800.999.5368 or
[email protected].

Did you know...?
You can capture up
to eight facts about a single individual in an insureds office, and
then search by those fields. This feature, once available on TAMs
Personal Info screen, now resides in Contacts
(versions 7.2 and
7.1.x).
Since these fields are agency-defined, its easy to capture very
specific information.

Dont let this
happen to you
When was the last time you checked the
integrity of your backup tape? Are you certain your backup tape is
restoring your data?
An agency telephoned Applied Systems to
say its server had crashed and the agency needed to purchase a new
one. During onsite installation by a systems consultant from
Applied Systems, the agencys backup tape was found to be faulty.
Whats worse, all of the agencys backup tapes were determined to be
bad. After exhausting all other avenues for retrieving their data,
the agency had no choice but to turn to a data salvage company to
try for retrieval.
This is only one problem that could
arise if you dont check the integrity of your backup tapes. Please
dont find yourself in this situation. Contact Applied Systems
Support at 800-999-6512 or
[email protected] and ask to have your backup tape
checked. Did you purchase your file server locally? Youll want to
contact your local tech. Its worth the phone call!
NOTE: Applied Systems
manages both the backup and verification processes for all
AppliedOnline customers.

Share TAM tips and
Vision valuables
In last months Client Solutions News, we
asked you to email us with any informational or opinion-seeking
questions. Here are some questions and a tip we received:
Q: We had talked about Vision being
able to have a drag-and-drop feature for attaching emails to client
files. When is this expected to be released? The Enhancement Committee
thought it could be done rather easily and would be in v3.0. --Judy
VerVoort, Insurance Services, Appleton, Wisconsin.
Q: Are there any plans for future
versions of fax@vantage to use the PDF format rather than TIF; or, will
it allow the option to choose the desired format in the server
settings. --Anne-Marie N. Rice, Scheetz, Horgan, Freeman & Phillips,
Greenville, South Carolina.
In answer to both questions: While
we cannot commit to a date for inclusion of these features, the product
maintenance requests (PMR) are in review in Applied Systems Product
Management. (A class explaining the PMR process will be available at
TENCon. To register for TENCon, click here to visit
ASCnet's Website.)
TAM user tip: When in property apps
on the Premises Information page, you can double-click on the Premises #
box and look at the physical addresses of each location. That is
sooooooo cool! We just upgraded to 7.2, so maybe it came w/ the
upgrade. If it was there before I didnt know it and spent a lot of
time flipping back and forth between the prop app and commercial lines
app. --Marlene Shepherd, Snyder Insurance Agency, Bloomington,
Illinois.
